10 Things I’ve Learned to Do in My 30s

I still don’t believe that I am in my 30s, but here we are. Just thriving, learning, and living at the ripe old age of 31 slowly but surely approaching 32. My 20s were a gigantic emotional rollercoaster filled with career changes, moving all over the east coast, falling in and out of love, and trying to navigate it all without falling apart – oh and to add in friendship and family drama, it was a never ending spiral of things to worry about.

My 30’s, this year and half has been different. I don’t know if it’s an actual physical shift that happens after you hit 30 or if saying “I’m 30” enough sets of triggers to make you act a certain way… Whatever it is, I have changed a bunch in these 500 or so days. I was absolutely terrified about turning 30, even more so 31, but it really isn’t as bad as you think it is.

Here are 10 things I’ve learned to do in my 30s.

Not Let Petty Issues Bother Me

In my 20s, throughout college and my early career, I genuinely cared so much about everything. If something happened, I was invested and needed to solve it, even if it wasn’t my issue to solve. Someone didn’t like me? I lost days of sleep trying to figure out why and what I can do to fix it. But in reality? It doesn’t matter. Letting situations that are out of your control bother you takes up too much space in your head and leaves less time to focus on important things that you really care out. In my 30s, it is what it is, I offer my two cents, share my opinion, and then leave things where they are. I don’t carry work issues out of work, I don’t talk about friend drama with other friends, I don’t overract when others overreact. Living in your own lane is an incredible thing.

Appreciate What is Mine

The universe has an incredible way of giving you exactly what you need exactly when you need it, even if you don’t think you need what you actually need. Are you following? This one took me a bit, but probably the best thing I’ve learned to do so far in my 30+ years of living on this crazy planet. There’s no need to wish for more when you have enough. Sometimes I was blinded by what I didn’t have that I didn’t truly see what was right in front of me. I can honestly say that I am so blessed to have the life I have and am so thankful for every person that has come and gone from my life, come and stayed in my life, or has been there by my side through it all.

Let Go of What isn’t Mine

So you know the universe gives you what you need, well guess what? It also takes away what you don’t need. One of the toughest things I’ve had to come to terms with is that peoples, places, and things that come into your life and sometimes not meant to last forever. Letting go of what isn’t mine has allowed me to spend more time appreciating what is currently in my life, because it can be taken at any moment. Friendships change and evolve, sometimes dissolve. Relationships fall apart. Promises are broken. Lots of let downs happen, but knowing that if that person leaves your life, it’s because they aren’t meant to be there.

Life Milestones Adults Should Be Celebrating.

I just had to fill out a survey for “life milestones” that I have completed or anticipate completing in the past and upcoming year. Just a few questions included were : Did you buy a home? Are you pregnant? Did you have a baby? Are you planning a wedding? Do you plan or planning a…

Ignore People Who Suck

Literally, everyone sucks. For one reason or another, it’s finding out who doesn’t and keeping them in your circle. I learned to not be ashamed of letting people fall out of my life if there is not place in my life for them and if they are not bringing any sort of positivity to the table.

Not Care About Social Media

Social Media is beyond fabricated and I’ve always had a pretty realistic view of social media, in that it’s very curated. But not until recently have I truly understood how manipulated social media is and that it’s important in everyone’s life is terrifying. I know I’ve personally pulled back on posting on social media, but also not cared what I was posting. When I was actively growing my page in the Jeep World, I would work with photographers and get gorgeous images of my Jeep and myself to post to gain followers, but I only posted pictures I thought were perfect. Now, I post pictures of me being an absolute idiot with my boyfriend. My page is private and I post what makes me smile, it’s for me and no one else and no one’s opinions on it matter!

Live in the Moment

In my 20s I packed out my scheduled more so than I do now, which is terrifying, but I was so focused on making money and being able to support my lifestyle that I overlooked some incredible people and some amazing opportunities by being so focused on myself. I guess you can say it worked out because I now make more money annually than I ever imagined making at this age and have created a life that I wouldn’t trade for the world, but I really am able to appreciate every moment because of how caught up with everything I was in my 20s.

Hug My Parents and Loved Ones Extra

There’s no need for explanation here. Life is short.

5 Reasons Why A Social Media Break Can Change Your Life

Let’s be real here, real quick… Social Media can completely take over and consume our thoughts. That’s actually what it is designed to do – it’s designed to be an addiction. It’s scary to think about, but it really does have to be acknowledged. The negative side of Social Media pops its ugly head into…

Raise My 401k Deductions and the Importance of Tax Free Gains

I wish I maxed out all my retirement funds sooner. This was actually a lesson in my 20s but I still wish it was sooner. Taking advantage of company matching 401ks is a must. Taking advantage of life insurance, huge plus. Letting my money work for me has been a game changer. Another thing I learned that should have it’s own, but will just be a nugget for those who read this far, know your worth. There is a reason that my annual salary jumped over 6 figures overnight, you have to know what you are worth and get it. I wish I learned that sooner.

Do What I Love

Being miserable at a job is not worth any amount of money that you will make. I have learned that it is easy to make money and that you can find ways to make money that you wouldn’t even think of. I never knew that I could take the sport I love and start to make a supplemental salary off of it along with my day job. Not only does that make me a happier person, but I love my life because I look forward to what I do every day and that’s an incredible feeling. I always wonder what would of happened if I took this leap earlier in my 20s, how would my life be different?

Not Care Because No One Knows What They’re Doing

This one took me by surprise but it’s one of the most valuable things I’ve learned in my 30s. Not necessarily learned because this is said frequently, but actually learned to know that it is 100% true. No one knows what they are doing. Literally no one. Everyones trying to figure it out and so am I. That’s the beauty of being 30, I have no idea about where my life is going to go anymore and that doesn’t matter because I know whatever happens is meant to be. It will workout how its supposed to and I will figure it out just like everyone before me has and everyone after me will continue to do.

Save Money Live Better, Money Saving Habits, Investing money, money relationship, how to save money, how to save money and live better

Save Money, Live Better.

You may hear “save money, live better” and immediately think of Walmart and the catchy slogan, but it’s a lot more than just a marketing phrase for a big box retailer. Saving Money is something that has been a topic of many conversations lately. With the direction of the market, housing prices, and the rising cost of nearly everything, money and liquidity has been on a late of people’s minds.

With social media and lots of individuals flaunting extravagant lifestyles, it’s easy to want to spend money aimlessly and even spend money that you don’t have. Saving money and living better is about not only saving money and having funds to fall back on if needed, but also living better because you have peace of mind in knowing that you are able to make ends meet. Saving money is not just about putting cash in the bank or a retirement fund, there’s a lot more to it.

Here are 8 ways to save money and live better..

Cut back on Alcohol, Cigarettes, Vapes, etc.

I would hope that everyone reading this is aware of the negative health effects of alcohol, cigarettes, vapes, and other ways people escape… These activities have long term health risks associated with them and also cost a decent chunk of money. The minimum retail price for a pack of cigarettes in New York City in $13.00, I highly doubt you’ll find them for that low but we can use it for the example. If you smoke a pack a day, which is pretty standard for more smokers, you’re looking at $4,745 a year on cigarettes. Now do the math for drinks or cocktails at a bar, vapes and vape cartridges, it really does add up. Money is being spent and quality of living in failing.

Instead of spending nearly $5,000 on cigarettes, think about taking on a gym membership. A $30 a month gym membership is $360 a year. Cutting smoking and purchasing a gym membership still equates to an over $4,000 profit in your pocket! Not to mention all the positive health benefits and the chunk of change you have in your pocket.

Start Saving Small

A tree starts as an acorn and it takes time to grow, so does your savings. As we enter into this unsettling time, it’s important to review finances and start to put cash aside sooner rather than later. With job market volatility and rising prices, you will never know when you may need to fall back on savings. Wether it’s $5 a week or $500 dollars a week, you need to start somewhere.

Saving money, in any capacity helps you live better because it helps ease the stress around money. Knowing that you have something, anything, to fall back on is such a feeling of relief. It’s like starting to workout, the hardest step is starting! But once you start it becomes addicting and lifestyle changes just start to fall into place. I remember my first job making less that $30,000 a year, paying nearly my entire monthly paycheck on rent, and starting to set a side a couple dollars every month. Watching that grow to what it is now is such an accomplishment. But you have to start in order to live better!

Cut back on Starbucks

As a note, when I say Starbucks, I mean all coffee shops. Similar to cigarettes and drinking, coffee comes with a steep price tag! Let’s say you’re getting coffee 7x a week and your latte costs you $7.00. That means in an entire year, you are spending $2,548 on coffee, not to mention the gas to get there and the croissant or cake pop you buy to go with it. What would you do with over $2,500 back in your pocket?

Sure caffeine addiction is real, but buying your own coffee machine and coffee beans is a much more cost efficient way to start your mornings than running to Starbucks or your local coffee shop. Here’s an awesome coffee machine for $25 and espresso machine for $70 on Amazon now. With the rising prices I have starting going to my local coffee shop 1x a week instead of 4x a week, I want to keep supporting small businesses but also need to keep an eye out for my own well-being! There are many ways to save money and live better, you just have to find them!

Give Yourself an Allowance

Remember when you were a kid and your day would be made when your parents gave you an allowance? You cherished that money and kept it in your piggy bank for something nice. You didn’t just spend it all in one place, or maybe you did and then you immediately regretted it… You’re the keeper of your own finances know, give yourself an allowance.

Now what you do with that allowance money is on you, but if I were you I would start saving it and maybe even start investing it! The beauty of investing money is compound interest, there is a risk but historically speaking sound investments in solid funds will over time give you back more money than what you put in. A great way to start investing in through Acorns, this app allows you to schedule transfers (could be your allowance) and invest them into your portfolio. You can check progress on the dashboard and also make purchases through the dashboard and many retailers and get a % of your purchases invested back into your account. If you’re interested you can check it out and sign up here.

Set a Financial Goal

If you don’t have a goal what are you working towards? Having a healthy competition with yourself can be fun! If you are saving for a home, car, sort of large purchase, or just saving for an emergency fund, it’s incredible important to set a goal. I want to save $X,XXX by this date. Make it clear and actionable to make you want to reach it!

Having a goal is going to naturally help you curb unnecessary spending. You might find yourself questioning, “do I really need this?” “Am I actually going to wear this?” “Is this something I will use more than once?” When you start adjusting your current spending lifestyle, and realize that you are fully capable of surviving off a less, then you really are acting on save more, live better.

Shop Around Before You Buy

See something you want and immediately impulse buy it? I’ve been there. Mid range purchases have been the death of me, it’s just $20 right?? Wrong thing about what that $20 bucks could turn into! But what if you actually need to spend that $20 to buy a jacket for your son or daughter, or a new pair of sandals because your only pair broke? Shop around. You might find that same jacket or a better one, for less money. Just because you are being money conscious, does not mean you are sacrificing your comfort in life. There’s always a deal to be found, whether its a different store, brand, retailer, or even with a coupon!

Saving money and living better is about small actions or changes that can add up to a huge profit. Just keep thinking about the coffee example, imagine you’re able to save $1-$3 on everything you buy because you looked for a deal and didn’t just spend the money at the first place? It can add up and guess what? You’re lifestyle didn’t change, you still have what would would have, plus a couple more dollars in your pocket.

Opt for Streaming Services Over Cable TV

Cable is way too expensive for what it is. I stopped paying for cable almost 7 years ago and never looked back. There are multiple streaming options that are substantially less, even with the necessary internet connection, than standard cable. Imagine paying $80 for multiple streaming platforms and internet instead of over $200 for cable, internet, and probably the same streaming networks.

You can save money many different ways, including TV! If we’re talking about living better also, there’s much better things to do then part your butt on a sofa and watch TV. Go for a walk, ride your bike, get your body moving instead of falling into a binge on TV. Think about the money you could save by cutting TV cable and streaming services all together?

Limit the Number of Outings

The definition of outings here is anything where you are going somewhere to do something that is going to cost you money. There are plenty of free activities you can do, explore a local park, spend a day at the beach, hike a trail, or just enjoy reading a book on a park bench to name a few. If you are spending money every time you leave the house, for dinner, activities, shopping, whatever it is, that means there is an opportunity to save money.

There’s no need to never go out and to never spend money again that’s not what we’re getting at here, part of living better is going out and enjoying life. But cutting down on expenses on outings can be a huge cost saver. Even reducing outings to 1x a week or 2x a month can amount to a large chunk of extra change in your pocket.

Think about all the ways your spend money now and how you can revisit some spending habits so you can save more and live better! Little changes really to add up in your wallet, and with the current economic landscape, there’s not better time to start than right now!

5 Quick Ways to Live a Healthier Life Girl running up stairs outdoors in orange nike sneakers

5 Quick Ways to Live a Healthier Life

A few months ago, I was talking to my mom a lot about how, with a full-time job, a part-time job, friends, boyfriend, family, this blog, and many other responsibilities, it’s so hard to focus on living a healthy life. Time seems to just vanish into thin air and the time you want to use to workout is over before you could even start heading to the gym. My mom was feeling the same kind of stress around this as I was, and as everyone knows stress doesn’t do the body any good…

I tried to implement different ways to get up and move, eat healthier, and to get into a healthier mindset. Had some successes and some failures, but overall was able to shed some pounds and just overall feel better. Here are the 5 quick changes that have stuck in my routine and don’t take up too much of your precious time!

5 Quick Ways to Live a Healthier Life

Drink More Water

Dehydration kills more dreams than anything else. Staying hydrated is key to feeling healthy, from reducing headaches to healthier skin, water does the body wonders. Maybe it is just me, but I feel more focused when I am hydrated which helps while I work! Focus on drinking water at specific times in the day. I personally have a large water bottle and make myself drink every hour… With work and constantly calls with my team, it’s very easy to forget to just drink water. When I used to used glasses on water, I would finish the glass but not find the time to get up from my computer to refill it (I know that sounds pathetic but it’s true). Check out the water bottle I got – It’s been a total game changer for my water consumption.

Cut Down on Alcohol

This is obvious, but easier said than done. I never drank too much, in terms of having to have wine or beer every night with dinner or every time I go out. Cutting down on beers here and there have made a big difference in my appearance. I am less bloated and don’t deal with the dehydration and its side effects like headaches anymore. Not only has my body thanked me, but so has my wallet. The price of these craft beers and a good bottle of wine can do a number on your bills. If you have trouble turning down drinks, there’s some great non-alcohol alternatives out there. You can also order a soda water with lime, everyone will think it is a vodka soda!

Peloton App’s 10 Minute Abs

Peloton is my favorite thing in the world – I haven’t been able to ride my bike as much as I liked because of time, but also because my apartment doesn’t have central air. My Peloton is in the living area that has no AC, so there’s no way I would be doing a peloton ride in a sauna… I turned to the Peloton App and started doing the 10 minute ab workouts in the morning. These are short, tough workouts! I noticed a difference in my mid section just two weeks into Emma Lovewell’s Crush Your Core Class. They also have other great classes – like Yoga, Boot Camps, and Run/Walks. I also enjoy their meditations. The app has everything to help you live a healthier life, physically and mentally. The fact that the classes can range from 5 minutes to 60 minutes, means there’s no excuse to not try to fit in a short workout to your crazy schedule.

Work Day Movement Breaks

Knowing I am stuck sitting at my laptop all day, adding in movement breaks has been a game-changer. Every hour on the hour that I am working (and am not on a video call), I do 10 crunches and 10 squats. It takes maybe 90 seconds and gets the body moving. …Also after an 8 hour work day, you’re looking at 80 crunches and 80 squats, not bad for a quick addition to your day!

Sunset Bike Rides / Walks

Once the work day ends and I start blogging or working on side projects, I lose all motivation to leave my house. I am just mentally drained and physically exhausted from the day at this point. In order to get going, I set alarms on my phone for 30 minutes before sunset and make myself go outside and walk or ride my bike! The alarm really gets my up and moving. I always thank myself at the end of the day for getting out and about. It’s really a great way to end your day on a high note. I couldn’t recommend this any more!

A the end of the day, small little changes can make a big difference in your life. These 5 ideas are simple ways that I have found success is living a healthier life, but it doesn’t mean they will work for everyone. Everyone’s body and life is different. Let me know some things you have implemented to live a healthier life!

Celebration balloons floating in the sky

Life Lessons I Learned In My Twenties

It’s starting to hit me that I am really in my 30s. But if we’re being honest, not much has changed from my 20’s. Butttt my 20’s were really a wild decade, from college to now it is hard to believe that so much time has gone by.

Looking back at my 20’s, it really was a decade of self growth and discovering my own self worth. I’ve always struggled trusting myself and dealt with more confidence issues than you can imagine. In the past decade, I’ve played Division 1 and 2 lacrosse, coached collegiate lacrosse, started my sales and marketing career, moved to Boston and lived their for over 5 years, bought 3 cars, made a bagillion and 1 mistakes, became a Nationally Qualified NPC Bikini Competitor, coached youth lacrosse, most recently became a varsity lacrosse coach, all while trying to keep my anxiety at bay and getting through every day!

Even though I feel like I am the same person from 10 years ago, I really have grown so much. I have learned a lot, and I’m looking forward to learning even more in my 30s. But no matter where life takes me, I will be taking these life lessons from my twenties with me wherever I go!

Trust Your Gut

If you have a feeling that something is either really right or really wrong, run with it.  Your instinct is always correct.

Put Yourself First

At the end of the day you have yourself to rely on, that’s it.  You’re stuck with you forever. Take care of yourself.  If you don’t like the situation that you are in, change it.  Your job isn’t cutting it, get a new one.  Someone is adding stress to your life, move on.  It really is ok to be selfish, on occasion, and make sure you are doing what’s right for you.

Trust Your Gut Even More

Seriously – don’t doubt yourself.  Whether it is a person, place, or thing, you’ll know if it’s meant for you or if it isn’t. Don’t ignore those butterflies in your stomach or aches in your heart, they are there for a reason.  Trust them.

Lean On Your Friends

If you’re lucky enough to have a group of friends that love you, lean on them. You don’t need to go through your issues and life alone. A true friend will let you vent, will help you solve your problems, and will not judge you at all. Don’t be afraid of opening up to your best friends, they are your best friends for a reason and will be there be your side through it all.

Don’t Spend Money On Stupid Things

Yes, money comes and money goes but do not throw your money away.  If you need something, buy it, but don’t spend all your money on one trip or something you will use once just to say you have it – live within your means.  I’ve seen way to many friends bury themselves in unnecessary debt for no other reason than crazy spending habits.

Invest Early and Often

Want to know what’s amazing? Compound Interest. Let your money work for you. Talk to a financial advisor as soon as possible to get yourself on the right track. Does your company offer a 401k match? Do it. Are you young enough to really benefit from a ROTH 401k? Do it. The later you start, the less growth potential but at the end of the day it’s NEVER to late to start. Invest what you can and forget about it. Yes taking money out of your paycheck stings, but years down the road you’ll revisit the account and be oh so pleasantly surprised with the bag you’ve managed to secure.

Looking for a quick, easy, and effective way to start investing money? Check out Acorns.  One of my favorite investment apps. You’ll get $5 in free stock when you sign up.

It’s Okay If Your Friend Circle Gets Smaller

Quality over Quantity. Your life will change, so will your friends and family. People will move away from you, and people will move near you. Your group will change, grow, and shrink. If your circle gets smaller, it’s okay. People have a time and place in your life, trust the universe and everything happening for a reason.

People Will Let Your Down

Not everything will be sunshine and rainbows, and that’s not a problem. People will let you down and it will feel like the end of the world. You might go through all the feels, but you will come out on top at the end of the day. You will learn lessons and you will grow. You will learn who is worth your time and who is not. Someone very close to me once said, energy is replenish-able so use it frivolously, time is not re-useable so use it wisely. Value your time and the people you let in your life.

Hang Onto What Makes Your Happy

Everything you do should be something that brings you happiness or takes you on a road to happiness. Don’t give something up that makes you happy. Don’t spend your time trying to chase something new in hopes of happiness if you already are living your best life.

It’s Okay To Let Go Of People You Once Loved

Many people will come and go from your life, some are harder to let go of than others. Some might take longer to let go of than others, but when someone no longer serves a purpose in your life its best to let them go and move forward. There’s always better things ahead.

If Someone Opens The Door to Leave, Let Them

For any reason, if someone of some thing decides to leave your life, let them. Do not force anyone or any situation you are in to stay if it chooses to leave you. The right person will stay. The right job will work out. The right friends will stay. You owe it to yourself to surround yourself with people who want to be with you. You owe it to yourself to be in a situation that works for you! If someone wants to leave, let them.

It’s Easy To Make Money

Don’t be scared of money. Making money is easy. There are a million and one ways to make a living, most of which you probably haven’t thought of yet and guess what, they aren’t illegal. Don’t be scared to try and start something of your own or a side hustle!

Don’t Compare Your Life to Someone Else’s Life

We are all living our lives on different paths. Your 20’s is a wild time where people are getting married, having babies, divorcing, getting jobs, starting companies, losing jobs, losing money, making insane amounts of money.. There’s so much change happening because everyone is figuring out their own lives. Don’t look at someone else and wish you have what they have. If you focus on other people’s lives more than your own, you’ll miss out on the amazing things that you are doing and the life that you are building for yourself.

Never Stop Loving Yourself

It will get rocky at times, but never forget how incredible of a person you are. Don’t let a person make you think you aren’t worthy. Don’t let a social media app make you think you aren’t beautiful. Don’t let one failure define you. You’ve made it this far and there’s so much ahead of you waiting!

If you’re currently in your twenties, enjoy it. I sure did.

Sad Feeling Sad Feeling Sad Feeling Sad Feeling

It’s Okay To Have That “Sad Feeling.”

I’ve been told a few times that life isn’t always perfect. Ain’t that the truth. I can’t even begin to count the amount of times that things have gone wrong. Without being incredibly cliche, life really is a roller coaster. You could be on top of the world one day and with the blink of an eye, everything can seem to crumble to the ground around you.

It happens to everyone. Literally. Everyone has had that sad feeling at some point in their life. And guess what?

It’s okay to have that sad feeling.

That rock bottom, nothing can get better, sad feeling. That sad feeling that is totally earth-shattering and takes over every aspect of your life. It’s okay to have that. That feeling that makes you feel the most helpless and unconsolable. The non-stop stressing. The sleepless nights. The tears that just non-stop fall. The endless phone calls to the people that love you. That sad feeling that you wish was never a thing. It’s okay to have that.

It’s okay to have that sad feeling.

Because after a while, you start to realize that you aren’t as close to rock bottom as you may have originally thought. You aren’t going to let yourself stay in this ditch that you think you’re stuck in. That sad feeling shouldn’t of even been a thing. You’re better than that. But let’s be real, that initial moment can last for what feels like a lifetime. The sad feeling that makes seconds feel like hours, hours feel like days, and weeks feel like years. It’s okay to have that. Because you know what? It ends. That sad feeling does go away. It’ll come back, because that’s what it does. It tests you. It makes you question if you can get out of this rut. You can. You will eventually get to the point where you may just start thinking that this sad feeling can get better.

It’s okay to have that sad feeling.

That sad feeling that finally starts to go away for good, no more tests. It’s okay to have that. Things start to get better and you start to forget why that sad feeling was even a thing to begin with in the first place. That sad feeling that isn’t really a sad feeling at all any more. It is more than okay to have that because that sad feeling becomes a thing of the past. Those sleepless nights become a good night’s rest. Those tears stop falling. That helplessness goes away and you start feel in control again. That sad feeling that isn’t a thing anymore really turned things around.

It’s okay to have that sad feeling.

Because in the end, without that sad feeling the good feelings wouldn’t be as great as they are. Without that sad feeling you would be comfortable being content. That sad feeling forced you to be better. It forced you to grow. Without that sad feeling you’d still be in the same place you were. It may just be the push you need to become the person you’re meant to be. That sad feeling isn’t a sad feeling anymore. At the end of the day that sad feeling is the reason that things got better. You got better. That sad feeling doesn’t last forever. You can’t let it last forever.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. It’s ok to feel sad. It’s ok to feel whatever you feel and it’s ok to go through whatever you are going through. It’s also more than okay to talk about it. Normalize talking about your mental health.

The negative side of Social Media pops its ugly head into our lives pretty frequently, whether we notice it or not. Taking a break from Social Media is not a bad thing. In fact, it could change your outlook!

Not everything about Social Media is negative though – it is a great way to stay connected to distant loved ones and even meet new like-minded friends. The idea of connecting digitally has opened up so many opportunities for people all over the world. It really is an incredible thing.

Have you ever taken a break from Social Media? It could be a day, a week, or even a whole month! It can really help you reset – before I get into it too much here are 5 reasons why a Social Media can change your life.

1. Allows You To Stop Focusing On Other People’s Lives

This, in my mind, is the number one reason why I take Social Media breaks. Sometimes you get lost in lives of influencers and celebrities – you might find yourself down a rabbit hole in looking from accounts and profiles. Admit it, we’ve all done it.

As intriguing as the Kardashian family’s lives are and following up on all the latest Bachelor/Bachelorette drama, they have nothing compared to your life. Having a Social Media Break allows you to focus on your own life! Take the time you are spending looking into other’s lives and start investing it in your own.

2. Gives You Time Back In Your Day

Taking a Social Media break means not going on any Social Networking platforms – a clean break from them. You ever think about all the time you spend throughout the day looking at pictures, posts, and videos? It’s probably way more time than you want to admit to (it is for me at least).

Think about all the things you can focus on if you gained an hour or two back in your day? That’s exactly what a Social Media break can do. It can give you time back in your day to try new things, maybe get off your butt and exercise, start a blog! The possibilities are endless – I think it’s fair to say that having a Social Media break can give you the time back in your day to finish a project you’ve always wanted to finish or start a new one.

3. Can Help Your Eyes & Head

I hate getting my weekly screen time report and seeing the hours a week that I spend looking through social, it’s pretty depressing actually. I hope I’m not the only one, I’m actually confident I’m not, who can’t believe the hours that were taken away of my week just simply scrolling. Having a Social Media break can help with the mindless scrolling and staring, which can help your health. Phone screens give off blue light which can have negative effects on eyesight. It is also a leading cause of migraines! Limiting your screen time and time on social media will give your eyes and your head a break.

4. Teaches You To Live In The Moment

I think @influencersinthewild is the ultimate evidence for this point. Seeing the absolutely crazy limits people will go to capture a new picture is at times, hysterical. Because of Social Media, people are always on the look out for the next best picture or video. Whether it be waiting in line to take a picture at a painted wall or not paying attention at a concert or sporting event to get a ‘cool’ picture, people seem to be letting their lives revolve around Social Media. This just means that they are missing out on interactions and moments that you can’t get back.

A Social Media break can help you live in the moment. Put your phone down and start making mental memories! By taking a break from Social Media you allow yourself to pay attention to things other than your phone screen. You may see something new and learn something new. By taking your head out of staring at your screen, you can open your eyes to memories that you can cherish forever. Not worrying about capturing the next most-liked picture on the feed allows you to enjoy the people around you.

5. Can Help Your Self Esteem

Social Media is filled with images and people that appear to be nothing shy of perfect. Fancy restaurants, fancy vacations, luxury cars, perfect models with ‘perfect’ bodies are constant staples on the Instagram Explore Page. Remember FaceTune is a real thing and a lot of people use it daily (Tana Mongeau I’m talking to you!). There’s nothing wrong with face tuning pictures to look your best self – but it is wrong to look at other people’s Instagram Posts and think less of yourself. When looking through Instagram it’s easy to get lost in seeing what you don’t have or what you don’t look like. We live in a world that promotes instant gratification, likes, follows, and bases them all off of looks. Getting lost in the perfectly curated world of photoshopped realities can play games with your mind.

It’s important to remember that you are beautiful, strong, and have everything that could want in life. A social media break can help reset your mind and help you realize that. There’s no need to compare yourself to others. There’s no need to do things others are doing. Focus on yourself and your own well-being. Taking a break from social media can allow you to fall in love with yourself again. Your follower count doesn’t matter. The amount of likes you get doesn’t matter. Who likes your pictures doesn’t matter. You matter. Put yourself first!

How to have a good week, positive mindset, personal growth, bad day, good day, bad week, good week, long island

Making a Bad Week A Good Week

This week has been absolutely crazy, and I’m writing this on Wednesday. I’m sure you’ve had a week like this, ya know that feels like 3 months but it’s only 7 days? Working at a Marketing Agency on Long Island, during pre-holiday season, means mass controlled chaos. Stress from work is at an all time high coupled with the sun setting early, makes for not the best the best mood. Working 10 hour plus days, working at home in the same place all day, waking up in the dark and ending your day in the dark, all have been the norm since day light savings and it’s all started to compound into one bad mood. I have managed 2 meltdowns in one week (it’s only Wenesday). Let’s be real – this week has been anything but a highlight.

But has it really been that bad? Yes, dealing with all the work stress and seasonal depression is tough but it’s not the only thing worth thinking about. Focusing on the negative makes everything negative. Focusing on the positive makes everything positive. Mindset shifts can really change your entire mood. Yes, I’ll be the first person to tell you I’ve been a grump and counting down the minutes til the weekend since I went to bed on Sunday night. But in the grand scheme of things this week really hasn’t been that bad, here’s why :

1. Got Started On Christmas Shopping

2. Started Blogging Again

3. Worked Out Every Day

4. Planned Dinner with a Friend I Haven’t Seen in a While

5. I am Finalizing a New Business

6. Re-Organized my Dresser

7. Ate Lunch & Dinner Every Day (big win)

8. Step Count Averaged Over 6k Steps a Day

9. Went To Target

10. Drank 64oz+ of Water Every Day

If you can’t find 10 good things about your week, then you need to go back and re-adjust how you look at it. Stressful days at work or dram with friends happens, it’s easy for it to consume your thoughts. Always remember that there is always a silver lining. You might read my ten things and go “Tina, seriously?” But I promise that organizing my dresser and getting my step count over 5k a day are huge accomplishments. Take a minute and think about the good things that happened when you’re having a crappy week, I promise you that not everything is as bad as it seems.

I challenge you on your toughest week to sit back and come up with 10 things that you accomplished or are proud of. I promise it’s not as difficult as it seems. It also feels amazing to have that mindset shift from negative to positive!
