December is a month that I always gave a bad reputation. December is gross. December is cold. December has literally no sun light. At first glance December is just the worst month of the year. It’s much easier to find the cons of December than the pros of December. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned in life so far, it’s that you can always find the silver lining.
Flash forward to today – for me, December is the best month of the year. For years, I resented the month of December and just looked past it to focus on the new year ahead. But truth be told, December brings a lot to the table. And turns out December is now, my favorite month of the year.
I’m not kidding, I really do think December is the best month of the year. Here are 4 Ways to position your December to be the best month of the year.
1 : Reflect on The Past 11 Months
Can you think of a better month than December to reflect on all the good, and maybe not so good things that happened over the year? I mean, I know I can’t. December is the end of the year and that means we’re ending a season and preparing for the next year! Thinking about progress, there’s really no better way to prep for future plans by reflecting on what was.
What happened that was good?
What happened that was bad?
Anything you really enjoyed that you’d like to continue doing?
Is there anything you learned throughout the year?
..these are just some questions to get your through process going.
In full transparency, this is really easy when thinking about the highlights. The good things that happened, the great people that entered your life, the incredible experiences that will forever be engrained in your memory – those things come to mind first. But don’t forget about the lows. I know I like to push the lows out of mind, but reflecting on them is necessary for growth and for recognizes actions you can take moving forward to become a better person or prevent different situations from reoccurring. For my Kardashian fans, you need to address both the peaches and the pits…
2 : Pick Up a New Hobby
We love personal growth – whether is physical, mental, emotional, or intellectual. Picking up a new hobby is a way to spark your own personal growth. Maybe you can explore a creative hobby and create something amazing. It’s also a great time to dabble in a new activity – maybe a winter sport if you’re in a snowy area or even looking at new fitness routines or workouts.
I know during December I tend to shut down and be a little reclusive – I also know I’m not alone with this. So if you’re looking to make sure your December is the best month of the year, why not push yourself to try something new! It could be a new sport or maybe add a new self-care practice to your routine. If you’re looking to get a little extra creative you can check out some of these really great kits from Amazon. I made this as a gift guide for the holidays in 2022, but this list is filled with really great starter kits for anyone who’s looking to pick up a new creative hobby.
There’s really endless things that you can try, so why not make December the best month and try a new hobby! You never know, it could end up being something that you continue to do for years to come. You can look back and think, damn December really is the best month of the year – I learned how to knit and now I have this amazing business where I sell sweaters that I make – I may have gotten carried away with that one, but you get the point.
3 : Set Goals!
Let’s leave the New Years Resolutions for January… Let’s use December to make sure you reach all the goals that we wanted to reach this year. Maybe you didn’t set goals in the beginning of the year or maybe your original goals you set changed.. Use these last 31 days to revisit your goals and then do your best to complete whatever is left!
December is the best month of the year for being motivated. It’s the last few weeks that you can say, “I did that this year.” or even next year you can say “Yea, that was something that I accomplished last year.” So get to work and cross those goals off your list. If you don’t have any goals for the year set or you completed all your already, here’s some quick monthly goals you can adopt to have something to work towards this December!
- Walk for 15 minutes every day of December
- Call a friend to catch up weekly
- Finish 2 books by the end of December
- Apply for 5 potential new jobs
The list is endless and I’m sure you can come up with some monthly goals that will ensure your December is the best month of the year. This December, as a new Apple Watch girlie (I know I’m late to the game), I set a goal to close my loops every day of December to keep my activity up. I honestly love it and I am ready to make this happen. If you want to get involved for yourself, check that link out above! – Then add me as a friend so we can be accountability buddies.
4 : Go on an Adventure!
It could just be me, but every year seems to go be quicker than the last. Maybe it’s cause I’m old or maybe it’s because I am so busy that I rarely make time for myself and the days just FLY by. Regardless… If you too think the year has flown by and you are not sure where the past 40+ weeks have gone, then planning an adventure in December is a must. There’s no better time to end the year on a high note with a memorable adventure.
It would be amazing to go book a three week trip to the Maldives and live it up to have the best December ever, but that’s really not realistic for a majority of everyone out there. So when I say adventure that could mean a day trip to town you wanted to visit that’s near by or maybe even splurging on a mini weekend getaway to a nearby state. If could be going on a hike nearby that you’ve always wanted to try but never had the time to go to. Whatever level of adventure you feel comfortable with, I would recommend making it happen in December.
Going into a new year thinking that you missed out on opportunities or didn’t get to do something you’ve always wanted to do means you’re starting off a new cycle with not the most positive thoughts and energy. If you want to close out the year if a big way, and make December the best month of your year, treat yourself to an adventure or getaway that you will remember for months to come. It will really set the stage for you heading into the new year excited for what’s to come!
