5 Reasons to Buy A Desk Walking Pad If You Work From Home

Walking Pads have taken the world by storm and for a all the right reasons. They are cost effective and able to be stored in small places, making them much more convenient than your traditional treadmill.

As a remote worker, purchasing a walking pad has been a total game changer when it comes to my overall quality of life. There was a time when I definitely put on some Covid weight because of how little movement I was able to fit into my daily routines on a daily basis. It also made me incredible sad and loosely depressed because of how sedentary and boring my days were becoming – living in a revolving hamster wheel of sitting in chairs and staring at screens gets very difficult.

After purchasing a walking pad to use during my work day, I can’t even begin to describe all the great outcomes that resulted. It has paid for itself over and over again in terms of my mental health, physical health, and overall wellbeing. Yes, it took some time to get used to. You have to master waking at a solid speed while multi-tasking – but I’m sure you are fully capable! Once you push past the balance and “working while moving” parts, you will start to see some really great benefits.

If you are debating buying a walking pad or are looking for a quality walking pad, than let’s get into the good part of this post…

If you need a desk walking pad or desk treadmill recommendation, this is the one that I purchased. It is linked here and throughout the post. I can’t recommend it enough – also for it’s low price you CANNOT beat it’s quality.

5 Reasons to Buy A Walking Pad If yOu Are A Remote Worker

Gets Your Moving & Active

Sitting all day and staring at a computer screen (or screens) is honestly kind of depressing. The day and time just flies by and all you have done all day is type, create, think, and talking other people through a screen. If you work remote, in what seems like a blink of an eye, your day is over and you haven’t done anything except get up and walking to your kitchen or your bathroom.

This is true especially in the winter months when you work from home, wake up in the dark and go to sleep in the dark, and are quite literally stuck inside all day. A walking pad is such a great way to add movement into your day without disrupting from your daily work tasks.

One of my favorite things about working in an office, was being able to take a 10-15 minute break and go for a walk. When I was working in Boston, I loved walking over to the Boston Commons, getting some fresh air, and disconnecting from work for a bit. When I started working remote, I started to lose that disconnection time and was locked into work for what seemed like 10 hours a day.

A walking pad adds movement into your day, helps you be active, which together gives you back a little bit of sanity in your day as a remote worker.

Helps Focus During Meetings

When I need to listen to a Monthly Meeting, a company all-hands, or an announcement from Leadership, you better believe I am walking on my walking pad at my desk.

If I am not walking on the walking pod, I am trying to accomplish all my tasks for the day and not paying the most attention to the meetings and the announcements being made. While adding the extra movement into your day on the walking pad, you can also lock into the work task that you need to focus on instead of half listening while switching between multiple tabs, reading emails, and trying to respond to Slack messages in a timely fashion.

I may have trained myself on this, but when I start walking on my walking pad while working from home, it’s time for me to lock in, focus, and listen to what is happening during the meeting.

Use It When You Are Done Working And Binging TV

Who said you can only use your walking pad during work hours? The benefit of having a walking pad is that it is light weight, easy to move, and can be placed in a small amount of open space.

I genuinely enjoy moving my walking pad into my Living Room and walking while I binge some trash TV – I’m currently rewatching Vanderpump Rules and I am loving every second of it. Instead of staring at my phone on the sofa and listening to the show in the background, I’m able to add more movement into my day and get off my damn phone!

You can also be more productive and throw on a documentary or a sports game and get some substance out of your TV time, but I just love decompressing while watching junk Bravo shows. It is so cathartic to forget about the drama in your own like while watching other people’s.

Lose Weight

The more you move your body that more calories you burn, the more you help promote your metabolism to function at a healthy rate. Think about all the movement you can add into your day when you start to incorporate walking on a walking pad during your workday as a work from home employee.

We’re talking indoor hot girl walks here and it is well know the health benefits of adding in a walk into your daily routine. Whether it’s a meeting or you are fine tuning a project or editing a few emails you have to send – get to walking and add more movement into you day while being productive at work.

A small bit of movement everyday can have a large result over time. Even if you start with 5-10 minutes walking on a walking pad while working from home daily, that could build into 30-60 minutes and soon enough you’ll be seeing the effects of movement in the form of weight loss or even shifts in body composition.

Boost Self Esteem & Confidence

There’s something to say about the correlation between movement and feeling great about yourself. The more you move your body that happier you are – I’m not a doctor so don’t quote me on that, but I do truly believe that something happens when you become active.

Even walking can be the spike in activity that you need to get an energy boost and start uplifting your spirit. It’s undeniable that you do start to feel proud of yourself for being active when you’ve previously neglected that part of your life. Movement is 100% a form of self-care and boosts your energy but also your mood – and even more it boosts how you feel about yourself.

Adding movement into your day is also something that can quickly turn into a new healthy habit. Repetition over rime turns into a mindful habit and you will exponentially increase the positive side effects of movement like a boost in self-esteem and confidence.

Who knew that all these amazing things can come from walking on a walking pad while you work from home? Don’t just take my word for it. Try it out for yourself.
