5 Reasons to Walk the Long Beach Boardwalk This Summer

Living on Long Island means easy access to some of the best beaches and water views that the Northeast has to offer. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that where we live on Long Island is where other people come to vacation. We really are incredibly lucky to call Long Island home – and if you’re visiting, you are in for a treat. There’s no better time to take advantage of all of Long Island has to offer than the summer time.

There are so many places to explore on Long Island in the summer but one of my favorites is the Long Beach boardwalk – maybe I am biased because I live here but Long Beach is an incredible beach town that ties in the beauty of Long Island with city living, while still maintaining a beach town charm. It’s a perfect combination that I think would be very difficult to replicate.

If you’re looking for a fun summer activity on Long Island then head on over to the Long Beach boardwalk! Here are 6 reasons why you should walk the Long Beach boardwalk this summer.

Get Active & Move Your Body

Walking the Long Beach Boardwalk is the perfect was to get active this summer. There are multiple boardwalks to choose from on Long Island but the Long Beach Boardwalk is unlike the others. The sunset views are unmatched along with being so close to the water, it really is the perfect place to spend some time with yourself walking solo or with a group of friends. The best thing about walking the boardwalk is that it is a low impact exercise. Yes there will be runners and bikers on the boardwalk with you, likely in the bike lane, but you will be surrounded with others who are looking to move their bodies and enjoy the views. My favorite part about getting active is getting to buy new workout clothes. My favorite lululemon align dupes from Amazon are my go-tos and are always the extra motivation I need to get back into an exercise routine.

Soak up the Sun

Laying out tanning is fun but isn’t it funny how you seem to tan more when you are just out and about in sun? That’s why walking the Long Beach boardwalk is the best in the summer. You get to get outside in the sun, get a tan, and get all the benefits of sunshine. There’s something special about being in the sun and then instantly seeign your mood change for the better. I swear being in sunshine is a form a medicine. As amazing as the sun is make sure you are prepared with sunscreen – the sun beats down on the Long Beach boardwalk, so take care of your skin! This is my sunscreen of choice from La Roche Posay – check it out!

Watch Beach Volleyball

This could totally be impartial because I love beach volleyball and play at least 4 nights a week but… If you are walking on the Long Beach Boardwalk you get some of the best views of the beach volleyball courts. There are some really competitive games that are played right in Long Beach and they are captivating to watch – beach volleyball is one of those games where the excitement of the match bleeds from the court into the spectators. So don’t be surprised if you get caught up watching a beach volleyball game on the Long Beach Boardwalk.

Get Social & Meet Friends

I briefly mentioned it before but the Long Beach Boardwalk is always filled with people – whether they be sitting on a bench reading a book, doing pull ups on the pull-up bar or biking, running, or walking on the boardwalk. Regardless of the weather there is a good amount of people outside on the boardwalk. It’s almost like it’s own social scene – I’ve started saying hi to some regulars on my daily morning walks! Walking on the boardwalk is a great way to meet people and be social. There are some run clubs and walk clubs as well in Long Beach that can make it easier to make active friends. You may end up with a group walk every day!

Take Advantage of the Warm Weather

Sometimes it seems like it is not worth it to go outside – but trust me in the summer in Long Beach it’s worth it to get out on the boardwalk. Lazy hermit days inside are fun and honestly necessary every once in a while but it can become negative if those lazy days become a recurring trend, especially in the summer. We only get a few months of this amazing weather on Long Island and it’s our civic duty to take advantage of it! Get outside and get to the Long Beach Boardwalk, you’re not going to regret it.
