Gone are the days when you could stay up into the early hours of the morning, get a few hours sleep, and be fully functioning for a full day of activities the next day. I don’t know about you but that hit me like a bag of bricks. Nothing screams ‘Welcome to your 30s’ louder than trying to function after not getting enough sleep.
Routines in the morning are really lovely – I mean taking some time for yourself, it can be 5 minutes or it would be 1 hour whatever suits your schedule. I found that my morning routine even varies by weekend vs. week day – thats the beautiful thing about creating a routine in the morning, you get to make it and mold it however you would like. No one is forcing you to do anything in the morning, it’s just you! It’s a choice and creating a healthy morning routine that moves you is a great way to stay consistent and pick up mindful habits.
Morning Routines may see boring but they provide a structure and help you prepare for whatever is in store – plus it’s an excuse to spend some me-time with yourself and only yourself. Taking care of yourself is an act of self love and remember the airplanes always say to put your mask on before you help anyone else – this is advice that you should take as you start your day, every day. Incorporating a Healthy Morning Routine into your day, especially in your 30s, can be beneficial to both your mental and emotional health.
Before we jump into it, I have to mention – I keep hearing a lot about this “aesthetic morning routine” and quite frankly it confuses me. I truly think any morning routine can be an aesthetic morning routine if you take the time to thoughtfully and mindful create your routine. Whether it means finding a nice robe and headband to wear when you wash your face or maybe even a cute workout outfit for your walks – whatever it is that you do, you can find a way to transformation your routine in the morning into an aesthetic morning routine,
If you are looking into some standardization to your mornings and you are in your 30s, here are some ideas to make your mornings more bearable and get you ready to take on the day!
Gratitude Journal
Taking 5 minutes out of your morning to gratitude journal is a refreshing activity that can help get your day started on the right foot. Mindset is everything and when you operate from a sense of gratitude and love you glow different. This quick mindful habit in the morning is a game changer for anyone in their 30s. If you need some inspo, I’ve tagged one of my favorite guided gratitude journals that helps make adding journaling to your morning routine easy.
Coffee or Tea
There’s nothing cozier than cuddling up on the sofa with a warm cup of tea or coffee and just enjoying the moment. Having a morning cup or tea or coffee is a great addition to any morning routine in your 30s. Taking a few minutes to sit and relax before the hecticness of the day arrives is the ideal calm before the storm – and we know the storm in your 30s is a crazy one. Pro Tip : Why not combine tea and gratitude journaling?
Make Your Bed
I’m not taking about making your bed an hour after you get out of bed and have the chance to wake up, I’m taking about immediately making your bed when you get up. It may be groggy and you may still feel half asleep, but making your bed is the ultimate form of self care. When things are messy and out of place, anxiety may hit stronger than before – setting yourself up for success in the morning by making your bed is as easy as putting your sheets and pillows back in order.
Wash Your Face
I don’t want to sound like your mother, but wash your face! Slash some water on your face and give yourself some self-care and feel refreshed as you start your day. Typically when things get busy, the first thing we neglect is ourselves. By adding a mini skincare routine, as simple as just washing your face, means you are giving back to yourself first thing in the morning! Self love goes a long way when you’re in your 30s. Check out my skincare page for the details on my skincare routine!
Meditation
Maybe you need a few more minutes in bed before you physically wake up – then adding meditation to your morning routine is the perfect fit. Starting your morning in silence and getting in check with your body and your thoughts is a powerful practice that can help give you the energy you need to make it through even the most difficult days. I swear by Insight Timer as my meditation app and it has been a gamechanger starting the day with a Morning Meditation every day.
Make Breakfast
Treat yourself in the morning. Don’t just roll out of the bed and out the door. Even if it means waking up a few minutes earlier than you absolutely have to – wake up and make yourself breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day so skipping it may not be the best options – even in your 30s it’s important to take care of yourself.
Go For a Morning Walk
Get your body moving in the morning! Walking is a great low impact way to start your day. It’s also a great mindful habit to incorporate into your daily routine. Mindful habits can bring in so much more good for you than you know – I may write a blog post about this in the future. But waking up and getting outside and walking is amazing – even throw on sunglasses, a hoodie, and your headphones and totally zone out for a 15 minutes walk! A morning walk is also a great time to listen to a audiobook, so look into this free trial of Audible to get your started!
Do 10 Squats
Don’t feel like leaving your house in the morning when you are still trying to get used to the sunlight? Not a problem – wake up, stand up, and do 10 squats. It could be anything really, squats, push ups, crunches, etc but wake up and add movement into your morning routine. In your 30’s it’s easy to just get comfortable with the routine of the day – work, caring for others, cooking, chores, errands that we neglect our own selves. Add some movement into your morning routine, it doesn’t have to be an hour workout, just 10 squats does the trick.
